Trustees choose high school design

By June 20, 2019No Comments

At its June 10 special meeting, the Alpine ISD Board of Trustees chose the design concept for the district’s new high school academic building, now scheduled to begin construction in January 2020.  Superintendent Becky McCutchen said she was working with financial advisors at Hilltop Securities and that the district would sell bonds in early September to save money on lower interest rates. She said tax values were expected to decrease starting in 2021 and going forward. With lower interest rates, almost a million dollars would be saved by selling bonds in September rather than in January 2020, when the district would have to pay a million dollars more over the life of the bond, thus generating a higher tax rate. She also said property taxes were decreasing because of taxes collected from the solar plant.
