Sul Ross State University is requesting $256 million in funding from the Texas Legislature to support major campus projects and student programs ahead of the 2027 legislative session. The proposal includes funding for the Borderlands Research Institute, student success initiatives, the university’s law enforcement academy, renovation and expansion of science and agriculture facilities in Alpine, and a new academic building and learning commons in Eagle Pass. University leaders say the investment is needed to maintain affordable education and support growth, particularly as the institution recovers from recent federal funding losses and budget cuts.
