Alpine attracts many artists and creative types who proudly display their work for all to see, and now a colorful new mural adorns a wall on the corner of East Holland Avenue and 3rd Street in Alpine. The art commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department. Rendered in rich, vivid tones, the striking mural was painted by former Alpine resident and business owner Cristina Sosa Noriega. San Antonio native Noriega and her husband Victor have connections to Alpine, having previously owned Murphy St. Raspa Co., a treats and sweets parlor that was famous for its shaved ice.
