Gallego later told the Avalanche, “I’m certainly gratified about the opportunity to be president of Sul Ross. The institution means a lot to me personally. Sul Ross gave me my start, and I’m particularly thrilled to be in a position where I can help students in our region succeed.”  He indicated he will be moving back to Alpine.  Gallego is a member of the Board of Directors of Texas Access to Justice Foundation and the Western Hemisphere Drug Policy Commission, and has served as president and chairman of the Texas Lyceum Association, founding chair of the Board of Hispanic Caucus Chairs, and as a part-time faculty member at Sul Ross.
