Alpine Native Honored in Texas Rodeo History

Alpine native Turtle Powell, a nationally recognized team roper, will be inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboys Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. Powell’s rodeo journey began at age eight, shaped by strong family support, local mentors, and early opportunities practicing with college rodeo athletes at Sul Ross. After competing for Vernon Junior College and Tarleton State University, Powell joined the PRCA in 1996 and went on to an exceptional professional career. He earned more than $1 million in career winnings, qualified for the National Finals Rodeo nine times, and captured a world championship header title in 2011. His résumé also includes numerous major PRCA and invitational wins across the country. Powell credits his success to years of hard work and sacrifice by both himself and his family. Now retired from professional competition, he and his wife, Molly, a 10‑time NFR qualifier, spend their time supporting their children as they pursue rodeo careers of their own. Powell will be formally inducted during Hall of Fame ceremonies in Fort Worth, April 23–25, honoring his lasting impact on Texas rodeo and the sport as a whole.
