The Museum of the Big Bend has appointed Dr. Emily Wilkinson as its new director, succeeding Dr. John Klingemann, who moved to an administrative role at Sul Ross State University. Wilkinson brings extensive experience from her tenure as Director of the Public Art Program for the Texas Tech University System and previous roles in museum education. She emphasizes reconnecting with her passion for museums, understanding the museum’s collection, and engaging the community through inclusive and culturally relevant programming. Her first major project will be the opening of the new map room on January 5. Wilkinson aims to build partnerships, foster outreach, and ensure the museum remains welcoming, mission-focused, and connected to Alpine and the surrounding region.
